Novell, Inc., a leading provider of Net infrastructure software, today announced support for Sun's newly launched Solaris* 8 operating environment. In cooperation with Sun, Novell delivers Net Services solutions for Solaris such as NDS eDirectory and GroupWise. These cross-platform Novell solutions run across all major operating systems, providing critical infrastructure for integrating Solaris platform with other Net resources.
Central to Novell's Net Services offerings for Solaris is NDS eDirectory, the industry's leading cross-platform directory service based on the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) standard. NDS eDirectory eliminates the gap between enterprise and Internet, enabling Solaris users to build and manage secure and customized relationships with customers and partners who want to use the Web as a primary channel for conducting business.
"Solaris 8, with its scalability and support for open standards, provides a great platform opportunity for Novell Net Services solutions," said Carl Ledbetter, Novell senior vice president for business and corporate development. "Led by NDS eDirectory for Solaris, Novell solutions provide the cross-platform Net infrastructure required for the next generation of Internet applications and services."
Novell also offers GroupWise for the Solaris platform, an easy-to-use integrated collaboration environment that offers a wide range of powerful messaging, calendar, workflow and knowledge management capabilities. GroupWise dramatically increases return on investment (ROI) by providing the Knowledge Universe, a single access point for messages, calendar information, documents and other collaboration information.
