Novell, Inc., a leading provider of Net services software, today announced the availability of Novell OnDemand Services, software that makes it possible for service providers to offer goods and services to their subscribers over the Web on a for-fee basis. Content such as software, music, documents and video, as well as access to virtually any physical, digital or intellectual property may be managed using OnDemand. Further, OnDemand bridges traditional boundaries by providing access to a wide range of Net services software, applications and content over the Internet through a standard Web browser. Crossing these boundaries with universal services that span across the Net to simplify the complexities of eBusiness and provide secure authentication and access management is a key factor in Novell's one Net vision.
Novell's OnDemand makes it possible for service provides to grow their business by offering two strategic benefits: First, OnDemand allows them to extend value-added services to their clientele, and easily and securely charge for those services. Second, because OnDemand is built on NDS eDirectory, it simplifies complexities on the Net by allowing all services, users and user accounts to be managed from a single location dramatically reducing administration costs, and therefore adding to the bottom line.
OnDemand also greatly benefits end-user customers by enabling them to rent or lease applications, content and services for as long as they need them. For example, if a customer only needs a word processing application for two days, he or she doesn't need to purchase the product but can simply rent it from a service provider using OnDemand.
"Novell's OnDemand has helped us develop a highly scalable, fast-to-market solution for our clients," said George McNulty, director of technology for Wizmo, a Minnesota-based ASP serving small and midsize businesses. "With Novell's OnDemand, we can easily distribute our proprietary services and other 3rd-party applications from e-mail to VPNs to our clients securely via the Web. Novell has been a vital partner in delivering to our customers the technology required for the new eBusiness economy. Novell OnDemand Services allows us to focus on our customers and our products, not the infrastructure to deliver it."
"Novell OnDemand Services is designed to give service providers a significant, sustainable advantage over their competition," said Dave Shirk, senior vice president of product management for Novell. "As the service provider market continues to grow at a phenomenal rate, the winners in that market will be defined by the range of value-added services they can offer to their customers. With that in mind, OnDemand provides simple, secure access to virtually any content, service or application."
Key advantages of Novell OnDemand Services include:
"Authorize.Net is thrilled to be a part of Novell's OnDemand offering, by providing online payment-processing services to their dynamic solution," said John Bodine, senior vice president of business development for Go2Net's Authorize.Net. "We continue to see a growing demand for online subscription services across the board and think that Novell OnDemand Services is filling a real need in the marketplace."
Availability and Pricing
Licenses to Novell OnDemand Services are available after June 30 to service providers who are members of Novell's Internet Commercial Service Provider (iCSP) program. Licenses to the product are priced under Novell's new subscription-based model on a per user per month basis; however, fees are only assessed as end-users actually consume services or content through Novell OnDemand Services. Companies interested in learning more about the iCSP program can inquire via e-mail to acnameth@novell.com.
