Novell, Inc., the leading provider of Net services software, today announced it is sponsoring a new directory resource center on the Web called LDAPzone, the first community portal site targeted at LDAP developers. LDAPzone is a free service that will offer a central repository of educational materials, software downloads, industry by-lined articles and other information to promote directories and LDAP open standards. Directory technology, which allows businesses to centrally store, manage, and secure user identities and information wherever it resides on a network, are core infrastructure elements of the Net. This initiative underscores Novell's leadership in driving the value of directories in eBusiness. LDAPzone is scheduled to go live May 15 at www.ldapzone.com.
"The idea of LDAPzone has broad industry support and early testing with developers has proven very successful. It's the first community portal for developers that will not only allow them to build a directory knowledge, but is a great vehicle for helping to gain a global audience for their LDAP directory-based applications," said Carleton Watkins, director of worldwide developer support at Novell. "Our goal is to ensure LDAPzone is an important resource that gives developers a competitive advantage and creates opportunity to increase application revenues. We believe it will have an important impact on the industry overall as it promises to accelerate the growth of open standard directories on the Net, which are proven for substantially lowering network management costs, reducing data errors, and providing businesses the power to respond more quickly to change."
