Utimaco completes acquisition of Atalla Product Line from Micro Focus

Utimaco has successfully completed its acquisition of the Atalla Hardware Security Module (HSM) and Enterprise Secure Key Manager (ESKM) product lines from Micro Focus International plc.

5 November 2018

This strategic acquisition positions Utimaco as the second-largest hardware security module (HSM) manufacturer in the world and creates the most comprehensive HSM offering on the market. The Atalla line of HSMs acquired from Micro Focus further strengthens Utimaco’s position in the payment and banking industry as banks and financial services look to embrace innovative, secure solutions.

Together with the Atalla business lines Utimaco’s Information Security Business includes

  • best-of-breed General Purpose HSM (CryptoServer, SecurityServer, TimestampServer),
  • Payment HSMs (PaymentServer, Atalla HSM) and
  • scalable management of encryption keys through Atalla’s ESKM to effectively secure data at rest.

“Utimaco provides customers a certified Root-of-Trust for their IoT applications and we combine this now with Atalla´s expertise and strong innovation in our future payments roadmap,” said Utimaco CEO, Malte Pollmann. “The closing of this acquisition shows our commitment to a joint vision for General Purpose and Payments HSMs, our continued integration with existing customer systems and optimizing their cost of ownership. We welcome the Atalla team to Utimaco and look forward to working jointly with them on the future of best-in-breed, crypto-agile information security platforms.”

The acquisition complements Utimaco’s existing PaymentServer line, ensuring customers can meet PCI Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), PCI Point-to-Point Encryption (PCI P2PE), and PCI HSM compliance as a delta certification with custom code running on the HSM.
