Biscom and Novell Announce Enterprise-Wide, Directory-Enabled Fax Server

NDS-integrated Fax Management Solution Offers Easy, Web-based Administration and Enhanced End-user Functionality

29 March 2000

Biscom today announced it has jointly developed an enterprise-wide, directory-enabled fax management solution with Novell, Inc. Biscom FAXCOM fax servers offer tight integration with Novell Directory Services& (NDS), thus providing centralized management, reduced administrative costs, and enhanced end-user functionality. Biscom is exhibiting the NDS-enabled FAXCOM fax server this week in the Technology lab at Novell's Brainshare 2000 user conference.

"We are pleased to see closer cooperation between Novell and Biscom to integrate fax more tightly with directory services," said Mike Nelson, E-mail Administrator/Senior Support Specialist at Chiquita Brands. "The ability to administrate the FAXCOM fax server using NDS will reduce our management costs significantly."

NDS-enabling the FAXCOM fax servers provides reduced administrative costs and centralized management for organizations. FAXCOM fax servers can be administered using NDS management tools, such as NW Admin. This enables Novell administrators to manage and control multiple FAXCOM fax servers just as they would any other object in a directory tree. For example, a network administrator can assign a user or a group specific fax rules and capabilities from the familiar NW Admin management interface. This approach reduces cost of ownership by providing administrators with a single point of control to manage multiple fax servers distributed throughout the enterprise.

"Working together, Biscom and Novell have developed a next generation fax server that simplifies and automates the management of complex networks via a single point of administration, whether from the Web or the enterprise," said David Shirk, senior vice president of product management for Novell. "This product helps our mutual customers make overall business communication more efficient and simplify the complexities of doing business on their networks."

"Offering tight integration between our FAXCOM fax servers and Novell Directory Services provides our customers with reduced administrative costs," explains Chris MacKenzie, vice president of Marketing and Business Development at Biscom. "We are committed to work with Novell for continued integration with NDS, LDAP and open standards to provide directory-enabled fax messaging solutions to enterprise customers."

The new NDS-enabled FAXCOM solution will also leverage the benefits of the NDS login and authentication services. This will offer administrators the ability to not only administer all FAXCOM fax servers from one single point, but also make that location universal via a Web browser.

FAXCOM fax servers add reliable fax capabilities to existing transaction processing, workflow and unified messaging applications and simultaneously integrate with virtually every corporate computing system from LAN-based applications, to ERP applications, mainframes and other host-based applications.
