Customers Outside of North America Can Now Take Advantage of Strongest Networking Security Measures Available
Novell, Inc. today announced immediate multi-product support for strong worldwide encryption in compliance with the new U.S. Department of Commerce export regulations. Specific approval was recently granted from the Bureau of Export Administration to ship strong encryption versions of NetWare 5, NetWare 5.1, NDS 8, NDS Corporate Edition and NDS eDirectory as specified in the January 14, 2000 publication of the Export Administration Regulations. These products are now available to both government and non-government end users on a worldwide basis with the highest levels of network security.
Novell customers outside of the U.S. and Canada can now take advantage of strong encryption in any of the products mentioned above by installing a new Novell International Cryptographic Infrastructure (NICI) module, which provides encryption strengths of 128 bits and higher. The NICI module is available for order for free.
"Novell has always been a leader in providing software for securing all types of networks," said Dave Shirk, senior vice president, product management, Novell. "Being first to market with the highest levels of security for our products demonstrates Novell's continued commitment to spurring the growth of e-business worldwide."
Strong encryption is a term given to ciphers (encryption/decryption algorithms), generally those with 64-bit keys or stronger. Ciphers using 128 bits or more are considered virtually "unbreakable" without decryption keys. Previously, software companies needed a special license from the government to export software solutions with greater than 56-bit encryption. As organizations outside the U.S. and Canada adapt their business networks to the Internet, they will now be able to implement stronger security found in products such as NetWare 5.1 and NDS eDirectory to protect their networks, systems and data.
