Cambridge Technology Partners Works With NYK Line to Expand its Online E-commerce Initiatives Globally

Novell's eServices subsidiary Cambridge Technology Partners and NYK Line develop advanced customer-focused e-commerce capabilities transforming the transportation industry globally

23 July 2001

Cambridge Technology Partners, the global eServices subsidiary of Novell, Inc. (NASDAQ: NOVL), a leading provider of eBusiness solutions and Net services software, today announced that it has joined forces with NYK Line (NYK), one of the world's leading shipping companies, to globally expand its online e-commerce initiatives. Cambridge worked with NYK to develop the initial online version of its Bill of Lading application, which allows NYK's customers to view and print critical shipping documents electronically. This solution was launched in March of 2001 for North America and has been further developed to serve both Asia and Europe, bringing online capabilities to a worldwide base of customers.

Cambridge was involved in all phases of the project from initial analysis and User Experience Design (UX) to the development, testing and implementation of the solution. By enabling NYK customers to view and print the bill of lading, a legal international shipping document, via the Internet, NYK is able to provide better and faster customer service for its worldwide customer base. The application will also allow NYK to begin to replace a paper based, labor-intensive process and improve the accuracy of the information.

"As a leading global shipping company, we want to work to set the pace for digital business within our industry," said Kinichi "Ken" Hirayama, Chairman of NYK Line (North America). "We chose Cambridge Technology Partners as our partner in this important endeavor because of their strong global presence and proven expertise in e-business solutions."

"NYK Line understands the competitive importance of moving facets of its business online," said Alexis Kane, vice president, Cambridge Technology Partners. "Through the innovative work we have done together, we have developed a strong partnership and we are committed to working with NYK Line to continue to develop solutions that will enable the company to maintain their competitive edge."

The global application was launched in June 2001. As a result of these successful engagements, Cambridge and NYK have plans to continue to work together on future projects.
