Novell Names Carl Ledbetter Senior Vice President for Engineering / Research and Development

Novell, Inc., a leading provider of Net business solutions, today announced that Dr. Carl S. Ledbetter has been appointed Senior Vice President, Engineering/Research& Development, for Novell.

  • Will retain Chief Technology Officer role

Novell, Inc., a leading provider of Net business solutions, today announced that Dr. Carl S. Ledbetter has been appointed Senior Vice President, Engineering/Research& Development, for Novell. He also retains his Chief Technology Officer role. Ledbetter will be responsible for all Novell engineering, research and development, and product management worldwide, including Novell's engineering in Provo, Bangalore, India, Massachusetts, and California. He will report to Chris Stone, who last week was named Vice Chairman in the Office of the CEO of Novell.

Ledbetter has been a Novell Senior Vice President since joining the company in late 1999, and has previously held the positions of Chief Technology Officer and SVP, Business and Corporate Development. He has been responsible for leading Novell's move to a one Net services approach and championing Novell's open standards, cross-platform development efforts, including software architecture, strategic partnerships, technology evangelism, and Novell's Venture Fund.

Prior to coming to Novell, Ledbetter held senior management positions in the computing and telecommunications industry as president of AT&T Consumer Products, as general manager of the Sun Microsystems PC networking business unit, as chairman and chief executive officer at Hybrid Networks, Inc., an innovator in the wireless broadband industry, and as director of the IBM Kingston laboratory. Before joining the computer industry, he was a professor of mathematics at Wellesley College and Clark University, academic dean at California State University, Sonoma, and served in the administration of Governor Brown in California. Ledbetter holds B.S., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees, all in mathematics, from the University of Redlands, Brandeis University, and Clark University, respectively.
