Crandall brings over three decades of technology leadership to the board Mackie's 30-Year tenure with Arthur Andersen provides deep understanding of the nexus of business and technology
Richard Crandall, founder of Comshare, Inc., former chairman of the Giga Information Group and current chairman of the Enterprise Software Roundtable, and Wayne Mackie, a senior financial executive with 30 years of experience at Arthur Andersen LLP, are joining Novell's board of directors, effective June 2, 2003. Crandall and Mackie bring deep experience in both the business and technology sectors to the board, and will provide important vision and direction to Novell as the company continues to expand its solutions for secure identity management, Web applications development, and cross-platform services markets.

Crandall, 59, founded Comshare, Inc., a pioneer in computer timesharing services and software, in 1966, and served as CEO of the company until 1994. He built Comshare into a $125 million business over that period, and expanded into 15 countries. In 1995 Crandall helped form the Giga Information Group, one of the industry's leading information technology research and advisory firms. He became Chairman in 2002. Crandall also founded and chairs the Enterprise Software Roundtable, which consists of the senior corporate leadership of the industry's top firms focused on enterprise software. Earlier, he served on and chaired the Information Technology Association of America, a leading industry group for the computer software and services sector. In addition to Novell, Crandall serves on the boards of Diebold, Inc., Comshare, and various other private firms. He received Bachelor of Science degrees in Electrical Engineering and Mathematics and a Masters Degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Michigan.
Mackie, 52, currently serves as an independent technology business consultant. He joined Arthur Andersen LLP in 1972 and rose to be a senior partner in the firm's Technology Practice. As chair of the firm's committee on emerging technology and software issues, he helped shape Arthur Andersen's technology focus, and he played an important role in the professional development of those involved in Arthur Andersen's technology practice. He worked extensively on revenue recognition issues for the software industry, business consulting with senior management, and regulatory compliance issues. Mackie is a member of the board of directors of the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and is a trustee serving on its budget and finance committee. Until recently, he was a member of the board of directors and on the executive committee of the Massachusetts High Technology Council. Mackie is a CPA in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Vermont. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Babson College, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Pennsylvania.
Crandall and Mackie become the eighth and ninth members of Novell's board, joining board chairman Messman and Alberto Aiello, Jr., Fred Corrado, Richard Nolan, Thomas Plaskett, J. William Poduska, Sr., and James Robinson III.
