Novell today announced the immediate availability of Novell® ZENworks® 6.6 Linux Management, a complete Linux* software management system that helps cut IT costs by dramatically reducing the required overhead to manage Linux software package updates. With enhanced support for and integration with SUSE® LINUX Enterprise Server 9, ZENworks Linux Management enables a completely managed Linux operating system optimized for enterprise deployment.
“This release of ZENworks Linux Management is another milestone in the integration of our management services with the SUSE LINUX platform,” said Novell CTO Alan Nugent. “Today's enterprises require that the operating system fits into the existing environment and that it is manageable. The scalability of SUSE LINUX and the advanced management capabilities of ZENworks strengthen our market position as the leading enterprise-class Linux solutions provider.”
ZENworks Linux Management provides precise control over the scheduling of Linux software updates, along with automated and intelligent Linux package dependency analysis and conflict resolution for smoother software installations. Using either an intuitive Web-based console or a powerful command line interface, administrators can centrally configure and distribute software selections, manage users, and organize groups of machines for installations and updates. ZENworks Linux Management is also included as part of the ZENworks suite, the only cross-platform systems management solution that includes Linux support.
Fred Broussard, senior analyst with IDC said, “As Linux continues penetrating the enterprise, software necessary to manage Linux becomes more important, and it is helpful when a vendor known for this type of system management provides capabilities for managing emerging technology. With ZENworks Linux Management, Novell continues to provide a suite of products that meets a broad spectrum of customer needs.”
Novell ZENworks Linux Management is also available with SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9. Together they provide the most powerful, secure and manageable Linux solution in the market by giving IT administrators centralized control over Linux software configurations across their server and workstation infrastructures. While ZENworks Linux Management is tightly integrated with SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 (part of Novell Open Enterprise Server announced today), it also supports and manages Red Hat*.
As the only Linux distribution based on the 2.6 kernel, SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server is much more scalable in the enterprise than competing distributions. It is further strengthened by the integrated management capabilities of ZENworks Linux Management, which enables IT professionals to more easily deploy, configure and update Linux servers. This adds to the YaST administration tool that gives IT personnel a common foundation for managing the operating system components, network services, open source components and third-party applications.
Novell's Linux solutions are backed by Novell's global ecosystem of enterprise-level consulting, training and support. Novell is actively partnering with hundreds of software and hardware companies to ensure that their latest offerings support SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9, providing business customers a trusted, reliable Linux foundation.
SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 managed by ZENworks Linux Management is available on a subscription basis starting at $416 per system, providing a discount over purchasing the products separately. ZENworks Linux Management can also be purchased standalone for $130 per user or system. For more information, go to http://www.novell.com/products/zenworks
