About DevPartner System Comparison
DevPartner System Comparison compares two computer systems, or compares the current state of your computer with a previous state, allowing you to determine why your application:
You can also use the comparison to check how installation or removal of a product impacts computer services or settings.
DevPartner System Comparison takes snapshots of machine configurations, registry settings, system services, drivers, installed products, etc., compares them, and reports the differences between snapshots. System Comparison consists of a service, which takes nightly snapshots of a system, and the user interface, which enables you to view differences between snapshots and to take a snapshot of your computer's current state. The utility also includes a command line interface to allow you to automate taking snapshots and comparing differences, which is useful for automated testing. It also includes an Application Programming Interface that allows end-users to trigger a snapshot in a deployed application. The snapshot can then be sent to the application developer to be analyzed to assist in troubleshooting. The end-user's machine does not require a DevPartner license to take the snapshot.
Refer to the product’s Help file for information on using this utility.
System Comparison is now a separate installation option available with DevPartner Studio Professional Edition and with DevPartner for Visual C++ BoundsChecker Suite.
By default, the System Comparison service is set to start automatically. The service takes a daily snapshot of your machine to facilitate system comparisons. The service runs at minimum priority, but it does consume some system resources for several minutes while it runs. If use of system resources is a concern, you can set the startup type to manual, but you will lose the functionality of having snapshots created automatically.
