DevPartner for Visual C++ BoundsChecker Suite

DevPartner for Visual C++ BoundsChecker Suite is a suite of tightly integrated development features. DevPartner incorporates static code analysis, error detection, performance analysis, and coverage analysis. DevPartner helps developers detect, diagnose, and resolve software bugs, maximize code performance, and ensure optimal code coverage and testing.

Installation

For licensing, system requirement, supported environments, and installation information, see the Distributed License Management Licensing Guide and the Installing DevPartner manuals:

Before installation, note the following:

If you are upgrading from a previous version of DevPartner Studio, refer to the Installing DevPartner manual for code review rules and preferences migration information before uninstalling your previous version of DevPartner Studio.
If you will be using DevPartner with Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Team System, you must install Visual Studio Team Explorer before installing DevPartner Studio.

Installable Packages on the DevPartner Studio 9.0 Installation Media

The DevPartner Studio installation automatically detects the releases of Visual Studio available on the computer to which it is being installed. If only releases earlier than Visual Studio 2005 are installed, then DevPartner Studio 8.2.1 installs. If only Visual Studio 2008 is installed, then DevPartner Studio 9.0 installs. If Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 is installed, the DevPartner Studio installation displays a dialog box that allows you to select the release of DevPartner Studio to be installed.

Users with existing Visual C++ projects can install DevPartner Studio 8.2.1 from the DevPartner Studio installation 9.0 media. DevPartner Studio 8.2.1 supports the Visual C++ 6.0 IDE.
Users with existing Visual C++ projects who wish to update those projects in Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 or Visual Studio 2008 can install DevPartner Studio 9.0 from the DevPartner Studio 9.0 installation media.

What's New in This Release

New in Release 9.0

Visual Studio 2008 Support
- DevPartner Studio 9.0 provides full Microsoft Visual Studio support. This includes full support the analysis of applications developed using Microsoft Visual Studio, and full integration into the Visual Studio 2008 IDE.

Project Types:
- DevPartner 9.0 supports Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Project types. The project types supported by each DevPartner feature are now documented in the DevPartner Help system and in the Understanding DevPartner manual.

LINQ Support
- DevPartner Studio 9.0 provides LINQ block level support for analysis.

AJAX Support
- DevPartner Studio 9.0 provides performance and coverage analysis support for AJAX language features in Visual Studio 2008.

Analyzing Mixed Code Solutions
- You can now collect data for unmanaged code portions when profiling a Visual C++ mixed-code solution.

New in Release 8.2.1

Optimal Delivery Manager 1.0 Support

Optimal Delivery Manager (ODM) solution metrics provide a summary view of the many kinds of data that DevPartner and other ODM products generate. You use Changepoint reports to view this summary data. Use these data summaries to track the progress of software development projects for requirements implementation, code quality, test coverage, and stability.

Known Issues

If you have Internet access, visit the Known Issues document on Compuware's FrontLine Web site to view a current list of known DevPartner Studio issues. This list is updated with new information as it becomes available.

If you are unable to access the Known Issues file through the Internet, refer to the KnownIssues.htm file on your DevPartner CD or, after installation, in the Program Files\Compuware\DevPartner directory. The installed version of the Known Issues file contains information available at the time of product release. Contact Compuware Technical Support at 1-800-538-7822 to receive the latest list of known issues beyond that date.
