Overview of Remote Mainframe Development

Enterprise Developer for z Systems enables users to edit, compile and execute jobs on the mainframe all directly from within the Eclipse IDE. It also enables you to model your mainframe development process directly into Eclipse without the need for custom Java plug-in development. This functionality is provided by the following additional components:

Micro Focus z/OS Connection in the Remote System View
A Micro Focus z/OS connection creates a connection to a remote z/OS system on the mainframe under a given port. It requires the installation of an MFA server instance on the mainframe.

The Micro Focus z/OS connection consists of explorer tree entries for all three z/OS sub systems MVS, JES, and USS.

The MVS Explorer entry enables you to define filters for MVS datasets. MVS Explorer supports allocate, edit, browse, copy, rename, or delete MVS sequential datasets or member of PO datasets.

The JES Explorer entry enables you to define filters for JES jobs. JES Explorer supports browse, re-submit, or delete jobs.

The USS Explorer entry enables you to define filters for USS paths. USS Explorer supports create, copy, rename, delete, or setting the permissions of USS folders or files. In addition, USS Explorer supports the editing or browsing of USS files.

Application Workflow Manager (AWM)

AWM is an integrated part of all Enterprise Developer variants and provides all the capabilities and tools to develop and maintain Application Workflow models. These models enable you to integrate tools and processes directly into views of the Enterprise Developer workbench.

In addition, AWM is provided as separate plug-in which can be installed in any Eclipse environment. If installed in IBM Developer for z Systems (IDz) AWM can make use of an IBM RSED connection to execute tools on an IBM mainframe. This constellation requires an Enterprise Developer Connect license to be installed.
