Data Manager performs three main workflow activities:
- Application Data Model Implementation
- Initial implementation of the application model, comprised of the definition of structure and classification of the source
data. This is the most time-consuming phase, and it is done only once at the beginning of the project. It is done using the
Work with Jobs window in Data Builder, and is composed of the following phases:
- Data Inventory Phase
- Data Classification Phase
- Application Data Model Update
- Update of the application model, if required. Periodically, the information contained within the
Data Manager structures should be synchronized with any changes that have been made within the source database. This is achieved by comparing
the IBM system catalog on z/OS and the
Data Manager internal representation of the catalog on Windows. This is done in the Life Cycle Phase using the Data Builder module.
- Application Data Model Extraction
- Extraction of data from source environment. This gets data from the source database and produces masked and reduced data
in the same output format as if the tables were processed using the IBM DSNUTILB UNLOAD command. Depending on whether you
have reduction rules or not, you perform these two phases:
- Data Masking Phase, done using the Data Masking module
- Data Subsetting Phase, done using the Data Subset Extraction module
