This variable lets you specify where certain temporary files used by the ASSIGN clause will be created on VAX/VMS systems. These temporary files are created when you use the %TMP% option for assigning a file to a simulated pipe with -P. See File Name Interpretation in the ACUCOBOL-GT User's Guide for more information.
