The updated catalog must be distributed on media appropriate for the end-user and the catalog must be in place prior to executing the catalog merge. The updated catalog either must be published to ODBC (that is, a data source created specifying it as the catalog) prior to executing the catalog merge, or the RELDBUTL.INI control file contains a CONNECT section that will create the data source prior to the merge.
The merge utility is a standalone executable that is distributed with the DBA. It must be executed from a Windows command prompt, as it contains a command line parameter specifying a rules file; for example:
