Micro Focus Enterprise Server includes a varied set of tools to assist you in problem analysis. These tools are the result of numerous
implementations, and the realization that different sorts of problems can occur, each requiring its own type of approach.
As a minimum, we recommend that anyone involved in a COBOL implementation should know, for each diagnostic tool or utility:
- What it does
- How to configure it
- What output is produced, and where to find it
Depending on the type of problem, you might need to use several diagnostic tools together to solve a problem. For example,
you could use the Console log to identify the failing process, and a trace and dump output to see processing details including
critical interactions with the other processes. When used together, these tools can pinpoint what led to the failure.
Notes:
- The diagnostic tools and utilities listed here are specifically for use with Enterprise Server applications. In addition,
you can use most if not all of the diagnostic tools and utilities listed in the
Diagnostics for COBOL Applications section under
Troubleshooting COBOL Applications. Many of these are important diagnostic tools and should not be overlooked.
- This documentation attempts to explain each diagnostic tool such that you should be able to analyze the output and resolve
problems yourself in many circumstances.
In cases where you are unable to do this, raise a
OpenText Support for Micro Focus Products case for additional help. See
Reporting a Problem for complete information.
