Using and hardening the supplied configuration

When it is initially installed, Enterprise Server comes with a configuration which contains various default settings and objects, and samples to demonstrate aspects of the product. This is known as the default, Installation Verification Procedure (IVP), or out-of-the-box configuration.

Because this configuration is not customized for an organization's needs and is designed to assist users in exploring the product's features, it is not very secure. This chapter discusses what changes can be made to the sample configuration to improve its security.

Some of these aspects are also covered in other chapters of this document. Micro Focus recommends following the instructions in the Removing or changing default credentials topic.

Organizations which already have an enterprise server instance configuration which is suitable for their applications may dispense with this chapter and simply use their existing configuration. Micro Focus recommends reviewing any existing configuration to remove facilities that are not required, such as listeners which are not needed by the applications running under Enterprise Server.
