The SSL support provided by the Enterprise Server is based on OpenSSL.
The OpenSSL project is a collaborative effort to develop a robust, commercial-grade, full-featured, and Open Source toolkit implementing the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL v2/v3) and Transport Layer Security (TLS v1) protocols as well as a full-strength general purpose cryptography library. The ability to send messages in an encrypted form is regarded in some parts of the world as being of military value, and therefore is subject in some countries to legal restrictions and export controls.
Some encryption or hashing algorithms available in OpenSSL are under patent. Micro Focus has, to the best of its knowledge, not provided these in the SSL support included with this COBOL system.
The use of some key lengths might be legally restricted in some countries, because longer key lengths give stronger protection, and therefore may be considered of military value.
