GWAVA Makes “Goner” Virus Go Bye-Bye

eSecurity for Novell GroupWise has Arrived

5 December 2001

As the “Goner” virus wreaked havoc on the Internet today, it was a “no-show” on Novell® GroupWise® systems protected by Beginfinite Inc.’s eSecurity suite “GWAVA”. GWAVA (short for “GroupWise Anti-Virus Agent”) is the only eSecurity solution designed specifically for Novell GroupWise with Anti-Virus, Attachment Blocking, Anti-Spam and Content Filtering capabilities.

GWAVA’s flexible eSecurity Policy Management allows GroupWise administrators to react quickly to new security threats including yesterday’s outbreak of the “Goner” virus.

Attachment Blocking: The Key to Rapid Response As details of the “Goner” virus became available, it became apparent that the virus was spreading through an infected file attachment called “GONE.SCR”. Companies using GWAVA were able to quickly block e-mail containing the GONE.SCR file, which concealed the virus.

Immediate Results “Today GWAVA blocked over 200 incoming e-mails containing the Goner virus!” Said Jeremy Levine, Managing Director at Heartland Consumer Products Canada. “Our company was safe while some of our customers, suppliers…and competitors were paralyzed for hours. We estimate that GWAVA saved us tens of thousands of dollars in downtime and lost opportunities.”

Novell – The Power to Change “Net services software from Novell gives organizations the flexibility to rapidly adapt to new opportunities, and sometimes new types of threats in the Net economy,” said Richard Bliss, product marketing manager for collaboration services at Novell. “GWAVA helps make a very secure environment like GroupWise arguably the most secure collaboration solution available.”
