Company to honor two, standout local students at BrainShare 2014
Novell today announced its continued support and commitment to furthering education in the computer science and technology field by delivering two scholarships to local high school students for their academic achievements and future career paths. In conjunction with the Utah State Office of Education for over 15 years, Novell has recognized exemplary students based on their technology experience, passion for continued education and certification, and leadership qualities both in and out of the classroom. This year, the individuals selected will go on to receive additional certifications from Novell advancing their achievements in the field and setting them up for rewarding careers both in college and the workforce.
The first scholarship, in the amount of $2,000, will be awarded to Kyle Rigby, a graduate of American Fork High School in Utah. Rigby was recognized by several instructors for his computer skills, specifically his knowledge of Linux, hardware, software, virtual machines and web. It was noted that he regularly went above and beyond with his assignments and took the time to work with other students, emulating the qualities of a true leader and expressing his appetite for the subject matter. He is currently attending the University of Utah, majoring in Chemical engineering, with a minor in Computer Science.
The second scholarship for $2,000 will be delivered to Jared Rawlings, also a graduate of American Fork High School. Nominated for his exemplary academic and personal skills, Rawlings stood out in his computer classes, often given additional projects and assisting in work outside the classroom. He consistently looked for ways to further his experience and development when it came to computer science and technology, and with a Novell certification, he is committed to continuing his education with the goal of a career in this field. He plans on majoring in Computer Science at Utah Valley University in the spring.
"We are proud to be involved with the Young Networking Professional Scholarship opportunity and feel it is important to foster the education and development of those who will be the future of our workforce," said Ron Milton at Novell. "At Novell, we understand the desire for a gateway into professional development from secondary and higher education and we are dedicated to providing a platform to advance the skills and careers for those in information technology and computer sciences."
