  • Multi-tier content distribution increases efficiency and productivity
  • Integration with NDS eDirectory enables higher level of remote management

Novell, Inc., the leading provider of Net services software, today announced ZENworks for Servers, a Net services management product that simplifies and centralizes management of multiple servers across networks.

ZENworks for Servers provides automated server management from a central console, freeing IT staff from repetitive management tasks and allowing them to focus on the larger challenge of moving their businesses to the Net. It allows administrators to set individual policies that manage multiple servers at once, provides fan-out distribution of server content, and automates the distribution and installation of server software to servers anywhere on the Net.

"ZENworks for Servers complements our ZENworks for Desktop implementation so we can schedule server-to-server, compressed distributions with bandwidth restrictions across the enterprise," said Brett Landry, assistant vice president of Hibernia National Bank. "ZENworks for servers allows us to manage and configure all our servers at once, such as driver updates and distribution of new versions of server-based applications."

Automating server management reduces network service disruptions by ensuring that processes are executed correctly and quickly. ZENworks for Servers allows organizations to build intelligent management processes that reduce network service disruptions, such as automating the task of taking a server off-line. For example, a policy established with ZENworks for Servers can postpone server downtime to keep a critical business process running, or keep users involved with critical applications online.

"ZENworks for Servers demonstrates the power of policies stored in NDS eDirectory to support new Net services that dramatically simplify and reduce the costs of managing resources on the Net" said Dave Shirk, senior vice president of product management for Novell. "By automating IT management processes with ZENworks for Servers, Novell customers literally get more for less, improving the reliability of their networks while reducing management costs."

Built on a scalable distribution architecture, ZENworks for Servers uses proxy agents to efficiently fan out content and applications to servers across the Net. Bandwidth management controls, and the ability to send only that information that needs updating, ensures fast and efficient distribution of update packages across the Net.
