Novell, Inc., the leading provider of Net services software, today introduced Novell® Single Sign-on 2.1 with v-GO* technology from Passlogix, password management software that helps organizations ensure their key information is protected while significantly reducing help desk costs. With enterprises currently spending hundreds of dollars per user every year on password management, the Novell Single Sign-on Bundle, at $49 per user, provides a quick return on investment. Novell is helping customers like Datacard and Anna-Laberge Hospital Centre realize significant cost savings in annual password management costs through increased user efficiency, reduced network administration costs, and centralized password management across multiple networks.

Novell estimates the password management market to be a $2.2 billion opportunity and that nearly 40 percent of that market will be linked to enterprise directories. By leveraging NDS® eDirectory, the industry's #1 enterprise and Net directory, to centrally store, secure and manage user identity and access rights and passwords, Novell is well positioned to lead the market.

"The problem of password management in the one Net enterprise, where hundreds of applications may be running on multiple networks and operating systems, is an easy one for customers to understand. With the upcoming release of Novell Single Sign-on 2.1, we are extending platform support to include Solaris* and Linux* so customers can manage user passwords across all these networks from one centralized location," said Paul Smart, vice president and general manager of Novell's Net Directory business. "The end result is a security management solution that is unlike anything in the market today. With the current shortage in trained IT professionals and the need to keep IT and network management costs under control, Novell Single Sign-on delivers immediate return on investment."

Novell Single Sign-on Reduces Annual Password Management Costs
Novell Single Sign-on offers a quick and significant return on investment by reducing enterprises' password management challenge. Novell estimates that a 10,000 person organization with the average employee requirement to access five+ password-protected applications would expect to save more than $12 million over three years, with a return on investment in six months.

Datacard Group is the world leader in card personalization and digital identification solutions, providing their personalized plastic smart card issuance services to better secure companies worldwide. Datacard turned to Novell to provide their 2,100 employees with improved access to password-protected applications in the enterprise and on the Web. Scott Henkel, chief information officer at Datacard Group stated, "We had a big password administration challenge in a multi-platform environment. We determined that we needed to improve our password security and, at the same time, reduce the amount of IT resources that were being consumed by the password process. We purchased the Novell Single Sign-on Bundle, improving employee confidence in the protection of their data."

Novell Single Sign-on Creates Savings in IT Resources
Novell Single Sign-on addresses a pressing need by customers in the healthcare market to deploy solutions that leverage existing technology investments. Anna-Laberge Hospital Centre is the newest hospital clinic in Quebec. Inaugurated in 1988 to respond to the growing health needs of the population, they are currently experiencing a high increase in activities primarily focussed on acute care and short-stay surgery. Monique St-Jean, MIS director at Anna-Leberge Hospital Centre commented, "We purchased the Novell Single Sign-on Bundle to improve security and increase user efficiency for a staff of doctors, nurses and administrators, and reduce the typical resources required to manage password administration in a mixed network environment. The Novell Single Sign-on Bundle gives users a higher level of convenience and security. Through centralized management we expect significant savings in IT resources."

Novell Single Sign-on Offers Cross Platform Support
Novell Single Sign-on 2.1 supports Windows NT*/2000, NetWare®, Solaris and Linux platforms, present in most enterprises today. Novell Single Sign-on helps users to manage their identity by providing single sign-on access to most popular Windows, Web and host-based applications from anywhere they connect to the network.
