Novell, the leading provider of Net services software, announced today it has signed on as a major sponsor of the U.S. Speedskating Team. Kicking off Novell's two-year sponsorship is the Novell® Legends of U.S. Speedskating Awards Ceremony, a fundraising effort to support the U.S. Speedskating Team and the Institute for Sport Science and Medicine. This event, which takes place at the Salt Lake City Hilton Hotel on March 9, will pull together leaders of the sport to honor Eric Heiden, five time Gold Medalist from the Lake Placid Olympics, for his outstanding contributions to speedskating. As a leader in helping companies accelerate their move to eBusiness, Novell understands the need for speed, and welcomes the opportunity to support U.S. Speedskating, one of the U.S.' most decorated winter sports.

The Novell Legends of U.S. Speedskating Awards Ceremony represents an unparalleled gathering of U.S. speedskating stars. " There will be over 30 athletes representing 15 Olympic teams, from 1932 to the present," said Mike Cofrin, marketing director for the U.S. Speedskating Team. "With a group like this, it's no wonder that all 600 seats have been sold. The interest in this event mirrors the tremendous success the U.S. has enjoyed in speedskating: this group of athletes has collectively won 25 Olympic medals. With the help of Novell, U.S. Speedskating hopes to continue this record of success in 2002 and beyond."

Sponsorship of the U.S. Speedskating Team is part of Novell's wide-ranging community involvement efforts and continues a tradition of active corporate support for non-profit organizations. As a leading Utah-based company, Novell is proud to help out a team of winter sport athletes as they prepare to be on the world stage here in Utah in 2002. "Novell's business is to help companies secure, simplify and accelerate their transition to eBusiness," said Darin Richins, vice president for corporate marketing. "Those who can move the fastest, win. We're pleased to be able to sponsor the fastest men and women on ice. With many members of the U.S. Speedskating Team living in Park City, Utah, not far from Novell's headquarters, we look forward to building a strong bond between the team and Novell."

In addition to providing funding for the U.S. Speedskating team, the Novell Legends of U.S. Speedskating Awards Ceremony will help fund programs at the Salt Lake City based Institute for Sport Science and Medicine. More information on the event can be found at www.usspeedskating.org/legends.
