Novell today announced Amazon Web Services (AWS) has begun offering On Demand, Reserved, and Spot instances for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server. Amazon EC2 running SUSE Linux Enterprise Server is available immediately in all regions and availability zones. Instances supported include the recently announced Micro instance. Users around the world can now benefit from on-demand access to the enterprise Linux operating system with the most certified applications and lowest cost of ownership.
Amazon EC2 running SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 and 11 from Novell is a proven platform for development, test and production workloads. Novell and AWS are jointly providing businesses, developers and independent software vendors (ISVs) of all sizes with a seamless purchasing experience. Users can purchase this offering directly on Amazon EC2 without first obtaining a separate operating system subscription with Novell.
Each instance of Amazon EC2 running SUSE Linux Enterprise Server comes with maintenance that automatically keeps the operating system up-to-date with Novell's most current security patches, bug fixes and new features to deliver peak performance. Customers have the option to purchase priority support for the operating system directly from Novell. AWS support customers will receive support for infrastructure related issues directly from AWS.
Amazon EC2 running SUSE Linux Enterprise Server offers a low-cost, pay-as-you-go model with no long-term commitments and no minimum fees. Pricing for a standard small On Demand instance of Amazon EC2 running SUSE Linux Enterprise Server is $0.115 per hour and scales to $2.10 per hour for a High Memory 4X-Large On Demand instance. The recently released SUSE Appliance Toolkit 1.1 now includes support for creating Amazon EC2 (AMI) images. SUSE Studio, the industry's most successful web-based appliance creation tool with more than 85,000 registered users, will also offer support for building Amazon EC2 images later in 2010.
