Continues Strategic Push to Provide NDS eDirectory Across All Leading Platform
Novell, Inc. today announced immediate availability of NDS eDirectory for Windows 2000*, Net services software that enables organizations using Microsoft software to simplify and accelerate their transformation to e-business. Integrated access to NDS eDirectory offers organizations using Windows 2000 significant new advantages, including the ability to extend the reach of their existing network to employees, customers and supply-chain partners across the Internet. Novell is offering a free 100-user license for NDS eDirectory to customers purchasing Windows 2000 before May 18. Additionally, Novell is beta testing a new Net services software product for managing Windows 2000 Server and Active Directory* environments with NDS eDirectory, and plans to ship the software later this year.
NDS eDirectory for Windows 2000 enables users to consolidate the use, management and control of resources both inside and outside the firewall, while Microsoft Active Directory provides directory support for managing Windows users and groups specific to Windows 2000 only.
Through its use of Internet standards, NDS eDirectory is tailored for dot-com environments. NDS eDirectory simplifies e-business by providing a cross-platform infrastructure able to scale for high-volume Internet services. By linking all existing directories and underlying platforms in a network and managing them from one central location, NDS eDirectory simplifies network management and reduces cost. NDS eDirectory is a full-service directory that will allow customers to integrate their existing mix of Unix*, NetWare, Windows 2000 and Windows NT* servers and clients under a single directory structure.

Forthcoming Active Directory Synchronization
For customers who choose to use Active Directory for managing user accounts in Windows applications such as Microsoft Exchange, Novell is currently beta-testing software that extends the profile information of Windows 2000 users and groups to Internet applications. NDS eDirectory will be able to manage all the directories and data in a customer's network and give administrators a single interface for common directory tasks such as creating and deleting users, and will add high-demand features such as password synchronization. Anticipated availability date is summer of this year.
Free 100-user License of NDS eDirectory Available to Windows 2000 users
A free 100-user license of NDS eDirectory, is available today for download on Novell's Web site to customers who purchase Microsoft Windows 2000 within 90 days of its release. For ISVs and developers, Novell is offering a free 100-user license copy of eDirectory aimed to foster development of directory-enabled applications and services. Customers who are currently using a competing directory service can get matching user licenses for NDS eDirectory at no charge.
