Novell, Inc., the leading provider of Net business solutions, today announced the availability of Novell® NetMail™ XE 3.1, a low-cost, secure and uncomplicated alternative to Microsoft* Exchange for small businesses with Windows* networks. NetMail XE is an open-standards-based messaging solution for Windows servers that gives small businesses easy-to-use e mail, calendaring and scheduling across the Internet.

The small-business version of Novell NetMail, NetMail XE provides smaller organizations with an in house e mail system that doesn't require an expensive and complicated back-end system but allows customers to use their existing e-mail client, such as Outlook*. NetMail XE is part of Novell's demonstrated commitment to small and medium-size businesses and is designed to meet the specific needs of growing enterprises, helping them leverage the power of the Internet with their existing Windows network investment to more efficiently communicate and do business.

"There are thousands of small businesses who need low-cost messaging in order to effectively compete in today's business world," said Dave Stevenson, vice president and general manager of Novell's Messaging and Business Solutions Group. "They're running Windows on their networks, but they can't or don't want to deal with the cost and complexity of Exchange. For small businesses who don't need the scalability and power of NetMail running Novell eDirectory™, NetMail XE gives them immediate return on their investment, but without an additional investment in network infrastructure, either software or hardware. Novell continues to deliver on its promise of tying existing networks into one Net, bringing lower costs and increased business capabilities to our customers."

Novell NetMail XE 3.1 gives small business customers a low-cost, simple-to-deploy e mail system that operates seamlessly on Windows NT*/2000/XP server platforms right out of the box, using the management features that are included in Windows. NetMail XE lets growing customers bring their e mail system in-house while using their familiar Outlook, Eudora* or Netscape* client, and its Internet-standards-based design doesn't bring with it the complexity of a full groupware system. NetMail XE features spam e-mail control and anti-virus support, and it also enables users to synchronize e mail, calendar and address book data to their Palm OS* and Pocket PC* PDA devices from any client workstation.

"NetMail XE is a tremendous solution for our small business customers who want their own e-mail systems," said Ray Poorman, president of CSS Integration& Communications, Inc., a Novell solution provider partner headquartered in Bellingham, Wash. "We have been extremely happy with NetMail as our core mail system for the ISP business over the last five years, and now that we can deploy it directly to our small business customers it becomes the perfect solution. It's clean, fast, easy to set up and maintenance is a breeze. Our customers can migrate to the security of an internal mail system while saving a tremendous amount on maintenance and implementation costs because NetMail XE doesn't require additional, expensive server software and hardware like other messaging solutions."

Novell NetMail XE 3.1 for small businesses is now available through Novell Authorized ResellersSM and solution providers for a suggested $295 for 10 users, $495 for 50 users and $995 for 250 user licenses.
