Novell and Information Architects Join Forces to Improve Access to Corporate Information

The combination of Novell's identity management and security services and Information Architects' content delivery technology provides powerful anytime, anywhere access to information and applications Novell's Active Information Portal solution leverages Information Architects technology to provide employees access to rapidly changing information in real time

15 April 2002

Novell, Inc., the leading provider of Net business solutions, and Information Architects, a leading provider of dynamic content delivery for businesses, today announced an agreement to enable portal-based business solutions that improve real-time information flow to employees, customers, and partners, both within and outside the organization. The agreement brings together Novell's identity management and security services, Novell's business and technology consulting expertise, and Information Architects' flagship product, Jitzu. Jitzu provides a development environment that lets organizations repackage and repurpose content from multiple sources - including legacy mainframe environments - without custom coding. This helps users access the information they need to do their jobs using any Web-enabled device.

The first result of the agreement is the inclusion of Information Architects' technology in Novell's Active Information Portal solution, which allows organizations to deliver real-time information to employees. Part of Novell's overall portal strategy, Active Information Portal provides access to information that is personalized, role-based and immediately available to employees from anywhere on the Web. Making sure employees have timely access to information and the ability to act on that information - regardless of where that information resides - is a key competitive requirement and a particular challenge in companies where information is stuck in legacy systems. Information Architects' technology brings a dynamic aspect to Active Information Portal, thus helping companies meet that challenge.

"Our customers require a solution that can help automate the real-time flow of information between applications that may reside in multiple environments, without significant and costly custom programming," said Mark Hill, vice president of Novell's Net Solutions Group. "Leveraging Novell's identity and security services in combination with Jitzu provides a robust, standards-based development framework that allows customers to leverage their existing technology investments for quick and cost-effective business solutions."

Novell Active Information Portal uses Information Architects' enterprise edition of Jitzu to aggregate and mix content fragments from third-party applications, internal and external Web sites, content management applications, eCommerce and personalization engines, and heavily vested mainframe applications to present an effective real-time, online view to the end user. Novell eDirectory™, with its powerful identity management and access control features, ensures the information and applications gathered from multiple sources are securely delivered to those who need them. Novell Active Information Portal provides employees personalized, real-time, interactive access to live data through their "digital cockpit." This differentiates Active Information Portal from the many portal offerings on the market that provide only a static snapshot of stored information.

"The ability to seamlessly integrate new solutions and technologies - both internally across the enterprise and externally with business partners - is critical to a company's ongoing success," said Robert Gruder, chairman and CEO of Information Architects. "We believe Jitzu, combined with Novell's professional services and identity management and security solutions, will help make Novell's customers' data and eCommerce functions more accessible and useful than ever before."
