Novell Names Albert Aiello Jr. to Board of Directors

Experience as technology executive in leading financial services firms will bring valuable customer viewpoint to board

16 December 2002

Novell, Inc. today announced that Albert Aiello Jr. has joined the Novell board of directors, effective Jan. 1, 2003. Currently an executive director and the global chief information officer (CIO) of the Lend Lease Corporation, Aiello has served in executive technology management positions in a variety of organizations over more than 25 years, including Fidelity Investments, CS First Boston and FMC Corporation. Having held CIO positions in several large corporate environments, Aiello represents a technology consumer's perspective that will provide an important contribution to Novell's board as it helps guide the company's strategy forward.

"As the CIO of a large, international organization, Albert brings the perspective of Novell's targeted customers to the board," said Jack Messman, chairman, president and CEO of Novell. "He deals with tough technology choices in a global context every day, so he understands what our customers are facing. This knowledge will be invaluable to the board as Novell presses forward in new growth markets around secure identity management, Web applications development and application integration. Albert will provide a compelling 'reality check' to ensure that Novell is addressing the most important challenges CIOs face today."

Prior to joining Lend Lease Corporation in 1998, Aiello, 60, was at Fidelity Investments where, as president of Fidelity's Systems Company and as a managing director, he had overall responsibility for Fidelity's technology direction, implementation and operations for seven years. Prior to that, Aiello served as vice president for data processing for CS First Boston and director of corporate management information services at FMC Corporation. Aiello began his career in 1968 at Sperry& Hutchinson Company, where he held a variety of staff and line positions, including director of planning and development. He has a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of New York, masters' degrees in industrial engineering and operations research from New York University, and a doctorate in business administration from New York University.

Aiello becomes Novell's tenth board member, joining board chairman Messman and Elaine Bond, Fred Corrado, Richard Nolan, Thomas Plaskett, John Poduska Sr., James Robinson III, Joseph Tibbetts Jr., and Carl Yankowski.
