Novell Nsure: Getting the Right Resources to the Right People Anytime, Anywhere

Novell has aligned considerable engineering, marketing, sales and consulting resources around the delivery of secure identity management solutions, under the name Novell Nsure Secure identity management helps companies enforce security policies, extend resources to internal and external users, provide single sign-on and lower administration costs

16 October 2002

In an online press conference today, Novell outlined the solution to a key business problem many CIOs face: How to cost-effectively deliver unique business resources to a distributed workforce, partners and customers from any location, while keeping their systems safe and secure.

To address this challenge, Novell has aligned considerable engineering, marketing, sales and consulting resources around the delivery of secure identity management solutions. These solutions, under the brand name Novell® Nsure™, are one of three priority markets Novell has identified, to which the company is committing all of its substantial resources. The other priority markets are Web application development, or Novell extend™, and cross-platform networking services, or Novell Nterprise™.

Novell Nsure solutions help businesses get the right resources to the right people anytime, anywhere by simplifying the management of user identities and integrating those identities across enterprise applications. For customers, this integration ensures that security policies are consistently enforced across the entire enterprise; allows businesses to securely extend resources to external users, based on their role and relationship with the company; gives users single sign-on to multiple applications and platforms; and significantly reduces the cost of network and security administration.

"Strong identity management practices should be an essential part of every IT strategy in order to make it more effective and more secure, with a better return on investment," said Roberta J. Witty, research director with Gartner Inc. "Whether companies want to deliver Web services to business partners, make employees more productive, or drive down the cost of their existing infrastructure by reducing the elapsed time of fulfilling an access request for the real-time enterprise, identity management is key."

Novell Nsure secure identity management solutions involve both consulting services and products to deliver maximum benefit. Novell offers the broadest set of secure identity management products in the industry, covering functions including authentication, access control, authorization, provisioning, delegated and self-service administration, directory services, and user registration and enrollment. These products are then coupled with consulting services to deliver a complete, customized solution. However, Novell Nsure solutions are not dependent on an all-Novell infrastructure. While customers can engage Novell for both products and services, Novell Nsure also supports standards-based integration with a broad range of third-party identity and security products; and many of Novell's consultant and system integrator partners offer identity management services that complement Novell Nsure.

As part of the launch of Novell Nsure, Novell has issued a number of announcements that outline several important components of secure identity management solutions. Announcements made today include:

  • Novell Nsure Resources™ - Novell will soon ship the company's first packaged solution for provisioning employee access to resources. Novell Nsure Resources maximizes productivity when new employees come on board, and protects corporate assets when those employees leave the company.
  • Strategic alliances - Novell Nsure solutions are supported by and offered through top professional services firms Deloitte& Touche and PricewaterhouseCoopers, as well as many other solution provider partners.
  • Customer deployment - Novell Nsure solutions have been deployed by a number of large organizations, including the North Broward Hospital District.

Novell invented the concept of secure identity management nearly a decade ago with the creation of the industry's first widely adopted directory service; and today secure identity management is a cornerstone of the company's one Net vision," said Chris Stone, Novell vice chairman - Office of the CEO. "The advent of Novell Nsure solutions should send a powerful signal to customers and competitors alike: With our resources aligned and a clear strategic focus, no company can match what Novell brings to the table around secure identity management. Certainly Novell has been a leader here for years, but now we intend to dominate."
