Novell, Inc. today announced ZENworks for Networks, a new Net services software product that enables organizations to establish policies that automate the management of network equipment and control quality of service across multiple networks. Leveraging Novell's NDS eDirectory, ZENworks for Networks expands the ability of organizations to manage Net services in an e-business environment, map business needs to the way they use the network, and ensure a rich and reliable Net experience for employees, customers and business partners.

"End-to-end directory-enabled management is what businesses need to simplify management tasks and to ensure the effective delivery of Net services to their customers," said Dave Shirk, Novell senior vice president of product management. "ZENworks for Networks builds upon Novell's strength in directory-enabled management to deliver a true end-to-end solution for policy-based network management. This product extends Novell's eDirectory story, establishing an important new role for Novell's directory at the center of e-business."

ZENworks for Networks, available today, allows administrators to customize and control bandwidth use by application and by user on network equipment such as switches and routers from leading vendors. As a result, organizations can establish bandwidth limits and other policies that efficiently align network use with business needs, including service-level agreements with e-business partners and customers. Efficient, end-to-end quality of service management with NDS enables organizations to optimize their investments in network infrastructure, reduce administration costs, and focus resources in areas of the network, such as mission-critical applications, that will most increase business efficiency and productivity.

"We are happy to see Novell introduce management products supporting Cisco-based networks," said Bill Ahlstrom, senior director of Cisco's enterprise management business unit. "This is a clear demonstration of the value of the Directory Enabled Networks (DEN) and the Common Information Model (CIM) standards that Cisco has helped pioneer."

"Directory-enabled management is an important component of Novell's recent successes," said John Hidalgo, Novell product manager for ZENworks for Networks and Chair of the DMTF DEN Working Group. "Open standards have always been an important component of Novell Products. In the management arena, DEN and CIM are strategic to Novell."

Through its new Consultant and Systems Integrator (CSI) program, Novell is working with leading consulting and systems integrators such as Perot Systems to add value to ZENworks for Networks and make it available in custom solutions.

"In addition to improving quality of service for the enterprise networks managed by Perot Systems, we expect ZENworks for Networks will be an essential tool for the delivery of ASP services to our customers," said Gary Castleberry, vice president of systems integration at Perot Systems.
