Novell Network Storage Appliance Unveiled
Novell today introduced the Novell® Network Storage Appliance, a network attached storage (NAS) device that possesses the entire Novell portfolio of robust file system technologies, security, manageability and reliability. Built on proven NetWare® technology, the Novell Network Storage Appliance is aimed at the remote office, workgroup, department and small business markets.
With corporate data storage requirements doubling every six to nine months and the cost of managing new storage being five to seven times the price of the storage, IT managers are finding more effective ways for storage provisioning and management. Novell Network Storage Appliance is the only NAS appliance on the market that completely supports the Novell environment, in addition to supporting Windows*, UNIX*, Linux*, Macintosh*, Novell and Web-based clients. All have native access to the Novell Network Storage appliance and all users, regardless of the client platform, can be centrally managed across a fleet of Novell Network Storage Appliances through the power of Novell NDS® eDirectory.
The Novell branded appliance is scheduled for shipment this summer. Pricing will be announced at a later date.
Novell Internet Printing Puts Simple, Secure Printing on the Net
Novell is taking customers' existing print infrastructure and extending it to the Net with Novell Internet Printing. Built on top of proven Novell Distributed Print Servicesä (NDPS®), Novell Internet Printing inherits the manageability, scalability, reliability and ease of use that made NDPS the leading print solution for enterprises. Novell Internet Printing will be part of NetWare 6 when it ships later this year.
Novell Internet Printing uses IPP (Internet Printing Protocol), the Web browser and Web technology to give users simple and secure access to printers that may be located anywhere in the world. Because it is built on NDPS, there is no need for users to purchase IPP printers. Novell Internet Printing transforms an NDPS printer into an IPP printer and gives it a presence on the Net.
Users simply access a list of printers via a Web browser and click on the printer they want. Administrators can also use the map tool to quickly create Web maps of building floor plans, dragging and dropping printer icons directly where printers are located. Then the user clicks once on the printer icon to install the desired printer. The drivers are automatically downloaded and the print job is securely sent to the correct printer over a LAN or the Internet. It is not necessary to have the NetWare client installed on the workstation to use Novell Internet Printing.
Novell Consulting Delivers Partner Business Opportunity Kit
Novell Consulting, committed to strengthening its business partner revenue potential with Net services technology, announces the release of the Partner Business Opportunity Kit (PBOK). The PBOK provides Consultant and Systems Integrators (CSIs), Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) and top Platinum and Gold channel partners with the information and documentation needed to engage with and leverage Novell Consulting as a prime contractor or subcontractor in customer engagements. The kit walks partners through the engagement process from start to finish, from initial contact with the Consulting Branch Manager to beginning work on-site. The objective being to help partners to quickly ramp up their growth potential and simplify, secure and accelerate their customers' transitions to eBusiness.
The PBOK was created as a tool to maximize the co-engagement opportunities between Novell and its partners, leveraging the specialization each has to offer.
