Novell, Inc., the leading provider of Net services software, today announced that the company's cross-platform directory, Novell® NDS® eDirectory, is the first directory to complete SunTone Program Certification. This certification means that eDirectory has passed rigorous evaluation and demonstrated superior levels of reliability and quality on the Sun platform. Obtaining certification under the SunTone program is another cross-platform milestone for the only directory on the market that runs across all leading operating systems, including NetWare®, Solaris OE, Windows* 2000/NT, Linux*, Compaq Tru64* UNIX* and very soon, IBM AIX*. This broad cross-platform support allows customers to dramatically reduce the cost of administering their mixed networks and get the most out of their existing technology investments.

Sun instituted the SunTone Certification and Branding Program in May 1999 to provide customers of Web-based services, applications and integrator services with a way to identify suppliers who meet defined high standards for providing quality service over the Internet. "For Exenet, eDirectory is a high-performance platform used to integrate all the eBusiness services we offer to our customers, many of whom are service providers themselves," said Jorge Labrada, vice president of Engineering with Exenet, an Application Infrastructure Provider based in New York City. "Today we are delivering that directory technology to customers using the Solaris Operating Environment through LDAP standards giving those customers a very stable, secure and scalable operating environment. The SunTone Program Certification of eDirectory is yet another validation of Exenet's decision to not only stake our business on the Novell eDirectory platform, but to confidently extend that platform to all leading operating systems, including Solaris OE."
To achieve the SunTone Program Certification, eDirectory underwent a rigorous evaluation process to ensure the software met requirements addressing scalability, availability, security, and management practices, optimized and tuned to run on the SunTone architecture.
