Novell GroupWise 6.5 will let customers filter out junk e-mail and foil e-mail viruses, saving money and boosting productivity Increasingly popular instant messaging now stays safely behind the corporate firewall with GroupWise 6.5 GroupWise users have anytime, anywhere access to collaboration via Web, PDA or phone
To help customers cut through the dangerous and expensive clutter of e-mail spam, viruses and other security threats, Novell is again upping the ante on collaboration security with the upcoming release of Novell® GroupWise® 6.5. A Novell Nterprise™ solution, GroupWise 6.5 will also let customers bring increasingly popular instant messaging (IM) communications behind the firewall, keeping employee IM conversations internal and safe from prying eyes.
"We have more than 34 million users relying on GroupWise to securely conduct business with co workers, customers and partners every day, and now the safe just got safer," said Doug Knight, vice president of networking infrastructure products for Novell. "In addition to improving security, we've revamped the user interface so GroupWise 6.5 customers will be able to more easily and intuitively manage their contacts, priorities and workload, on top of the ability to access their information anytime via a Web browser or PDA. There's a reason the GroupWise user base grew 30 percent between 2000 and 2001, and that reason is Novell's not just promising but is actually delivering to customers the security they require and return on investment they demand."
GroupWise provides e-mail, calendaring, contact and document management, and workflow services across network operating systems including Novell NetWare® and Windows NT*/2000. Part of Novell Nterprise - a set of services that improve communication, simplify and automate network management, and allow workers to be productive regardless of location, device or platform - GroupWise gives users access to their information via desktop and laptop computers, wireless telephones, PDAs and RIM* devices.
Richard Owrey, director of systems for the Ellwood Group, one of the world's largest steel manufacturers, said, "For most of our offices, GroupWise is the only collaboration tool they have ever known. But we have also migrated one office from Microsoft to GroupWise and have drastically improved the stability and reliability of their system. The receiving and spreading of viruses has been completely eliminated with GroupWise. Without this, we could waste days, even weeks cleaning up. GroupWise has stabilized our system without requiring onsite support - the system runs by itself."
