Novell, Inc., the leading provider of Net services software, today unveiled a powerful new management framework that integrates wireless technology for Novell® NDS® eDirectory, deigned to help customers significantly enhance network management across desktops, operating systems and wireless devices. Novell eDirectory, the #1 enterprise and Net directory service, already leads the industry in managing user identities and access across wired networks. By adding wireless muscle to eDirectory, Novell provides new and improved management tools that gives companies the power, flexibility and convenience to manage their networks from anywhere, on any device. With Novell's new eDirectory management framework, the days of IT professionals being "tied to their desks" are over.

Demonstrating the power of mobile directory technology, Novell is also integrating wireless capabilities into the next release of eGuide, a platform-independent, Web-based Net service that helps users quickly find and make one-click connections to people, places and things. eGuide takes key corporate information about employees, customers, and partners stored in eDirectory and makes that easily available to end-users. With wireless eGuide, users will be able to look up an employee, customer or vendor from their cell phone, PDA or Web browser and automatically initiate a call, instant message, or send an e-mail. Since it's based on eDirectory, it's always updated when the central corporate information is updated, ensuring employees have the most current information. Scheduled for release later this year, this new version of eGuide will greatly enhance business communications and increase user efficiency.

New Management Framework Enhances Value of eDirectory
The new eDirectory management framework is a very flexible, customizable tool that allows customers to easily access or modify attributes in the directory without the need for specialized programming skills. It features role based services allowing administrators to empower end-users to execute certain tasks in order to free up valuable IT resources. Now even common tasks like password reset can be carried out effortlessly.

The eDirectory management framework complements Novell's ConsoleOne client-server management tool by allowing network and systems administrators to benefit from secure and fast anywhere, anytime access to the directory. The Novell eDirectory management framework supports the following open standards: HTML, XML and LDAP, and runs on Netscape and Internet Explorer.
