Long-time Price Waterhouse partner brings both technology and financial expertise to the board

25 November 2002

Novell announced today that Joseph S. Tibbetts, Jr. has joined the Novell board of directors, effective immediately. Currently an independent corporate financial consultant, Tibbetts has significant experience in both the finance and software arenas, having spent more than twenty years in public accounting at Price Waterhouse (now PricewaterhouseCoopers), including five years as national director of the firm's software services group. With stints as chief financial officer and treasurer in public technology firms, Tibbetts brings tested financial expertise to Novell's board, as well as proven executive leadership and extensive experience in corporate governance.

"Joe Tibbetts is a great addition to Novell's board," said Jack Messman, chairman and CEO of Novell. "He brings a rare combination of finance and technology sector experience that few can match. We expect Joe to provide significant guidance to Novell as we continue our progress toward becoming a leading solutions company for identity management, web applications development, and cross-platform network infrastructure."

Prior to establishing his own consulting practice, Tibbetts, 50, was a general partner at Charles River Ventures, heading its CRVelocity consulting group, which focused on helping the firm's portfolio companies on operational and financial matters. Before Charles River Ventures, he was chief financial officer, treasurer, and senior vice president for finance and administration at Lightbridge, Inc., a firm focusing on telecommunications customer relationship management solutions. From 1996-98, Tibbetts was chief financial officer, treasurer, and vice president for finance and administration at SeaChange International, Inc. where he managed the company's initial public offering. During the preceding 20 years, he worked at Price Waterhouse LLP, where he rose to become a partner and national director of the software services group. Tibbetts is on the advisory board of the New England High Tech Charity Foundation, was formerly on the board of directors of Great Plains Software, and is a past chairman of the Financial Practices Committee of the American Software Association. Tibbetts holds a bachelor degree in business administration from the University of New Hampshire.

Tibbetts becomes Novell's ninth board member, joining board chairman Messman and Elaine Bond, Fred Corrado, Richard Nolan, Thomas Plaskett, John Poduska, Sr., James Robinson III, and Carl Yankowski.
