Novell, Inc., the leading provider of Net services software, today announced the availability of Novell Net Publisher 2.0, the latest version of Novell's cross-platform Web-publishing software. Novell Net Publisher enables businesses to easily publish, access and share documents securely with colleagues, partners and customers. Featuring Microsoft* Windows* 2000 support, a revamped user interface and simplified document sharing, Novell Net Publisher 2.0 makes it possible for users and administrators to have highly secure, manageable access to Web documents using any standard Web browser, anywhere in the world. By reaching across corporate intranets, extranets and the Internet, Novell Net Publisher provides a vital link between businesses and their customers and partners who want to use the Net as a primary channel for conducting business.
"Critical to our offering is the conversion of disparate, locally generated content to consistent Web-ready content. Novell Net Publisher has proved invaluable in this endeavor," said Matt Compton, co-founder of Ushock, a dot-com company that develops localized portals for college towns and the local merchants who serve those communities. "With Novell Net Publisher, community members can create local-oriented content in whichever application they prefer and then publish it directly and securely to the Web. Together with eDirectory, Novell Net Publisher gives Ushock a great combination of scalability and control by providing an efficient system for ensuring the quality, accuracy and security of the local content generation."
Novell Net Publisher makes Web publishing as easy as storing and updating documents in a folder on a local or network drive; and it can be accessed using any Web browser. Users need no knowledge of HTML or other specialized languages, they simply compose documents in their favorite applications such as Microsoft Office 2000 applications and quickly post them to the Web. In addition, Novell Net Publisher augments the Web publishing capabilities of Office 2000 with features such as enhanced security, full-text searching and automated document approval routing. Specific enhancements in version 2.0 include:
"Because it's built on Novell's eDirectory, Novell Net Publisher enables users to create, publish and share documents on the Web in a way that is secure and extremely manageable characteristics that are critical for conducting business on the Net," said Craig Miller, vice president and general manager of Novell's Net Management Division. "For administrators, eDirectory integration means centralized management and reduced network administration costs. For end-users, it means directory-based authentication that allows them to retain control of the documents they publish to the Web."
