Novell, Inc., a leader in eBusiness solutions and Net services software, today announced that two Novell® products were named "Best of COMDEX*" at COMDEX Fall 2001 in Las Vegas. Novell NetWare® 6 was named Best Networking Software, and Novell ZENworks® for Desktops 3.2 was chosen Best Enterprise Software. The award winners were selected by editors of CIO, Computerworld, InfoWorld, Network World and PC World magazines for their technical innovation and impact on customers' business. Novell is the only vendor to have multiple products chosen as Best of COMDEX.
These awards are part of a series of recent honors for Novell Net services software, including ZENworks for Desktops' Network World Readers' Choice Award 2001 for best desktop management software and NetWare 6's Award for Technical Excellence from PC Magazine for best networking product of the year.
"It's extremely gratifying to see Novell products continually identified by the media, customers and industry analysts as being the top solutions that meet customers' business needs today," said Craig Miller, vice president and general manager of Novell's Net Management business unit. "While NetWare 6 delivers anytime, anywhere access to information from various network platforms, desktop operating systems and wireless devices, ZENworks is reducing the time and costs associated with managing workstations from birth to retirement. We are giving our customers the market's top technology to help them effectively compete and deliver top products and services of their own."
ZENworks for Desktops 3.2 is the latest version of the most widely deployed directory-enabled desktop management solution on the market. ZENworks simplifies network administration by leveraging eDirectory to automate and streamline software distribution and repair, desktop configuration, remote management, and workstation operating system imaging. ZENworks for Desktops operates across network operating systems, including NetWare and Windows NT*/2000, managing Windows* workstations on networks as one Net. Giga Information Group recently named ZENworks the top desktop management tool on the market, and a recent IDC white paper reported ZENworks gave customers a payback time of less than three months and an average three-year return on investment of 2,039 percent.
Net services provided by NetWare 6 include Novell iFolder, which lets users securely access and synchronize their files, anywhere in the world, across all types of networks and on any Internet-enabled machine. iPrint makes Internet printing a reality by allowing customers to use a simple Web browser to find and install a printer and securely print with the click of a mouse, so there are no location restraints on either the user or the printer. In addition, NetWare WebAccess provides user access via a Web browser to files, printers, e-mail, calendar, corporate address book, etc., all through a customizable portal. NetWare 6 also allows Windows, Macintosh*, UNIX*, Linux* and Web-based client workstations to connect and store files and data on NetWare servers without any Novell client software on the workstation.
