Novell, Inc.(NASDAQ:NOVL), the leading provider of Net services software, today announced that Digital Island (NASDAQ: ISLD) has selected Novell eBusiness infrastructure technology to simplify user identity management on Digital Island's internal networks. Digital Island will implement Novell's industry's leading directory service, Novell® NDS® eDirectory, and DirXML, application integration software to help manage and secure customer, partner and employee data and information across its Win2000/NT, Solaris* and Linux* network. Leveraging Novell technology will help Digital Island closely manage internal IT costs and streamline its business operations, allowing the company to better serve its enterprise customers worldwide.

"With Novell eDirectory and DirXML we are able to implement a standardized directory infrastructure that has reduced the user profiles we had to manage from over 30 to only one profile for each user on the network," said Troy Saxton-Getty, vice president, information systems and technology, Digital Island. "By simplifying our internal infrastructure we can more closely control our IT costs and streamline our internal operations, enabling our employees to become more responsive to our customers' needs."

Under the agreement, Digital Island is leveraging Novell Consulting to enhance integration of eDirectory and DirXML while maximizing technology investments. A project to manage and consolidate directory services using the new Novell Account Management for Windows* 2000 and Active Directory* is well under way and exceeding expectations for cost savings. The selection of Novell underscores its strategy to provide the infrastructure that powers all types of networks as one Net.

In concert with DirXML, eDirectory provides a platform for Digital Island to manage all aspects of their user identities and system resources through a simple, easy-to-use interface, empowering them to control access to resources and information and enhance quality of service. It also reduces network administration costs typically associated with keeping data and information updated across multiple databases, applications and networks by allowing core information to be automatically synchronized and shared.

"Digital Island fully understands the benefit of one Net Internet, intranet, extranet running as one regardless of network, application or operating system-in order to fully maximize the potential of eBusiness," said Paul Smart, vice president and general manager, Novell's Net Directory Services. "As more companies like Digital Island look to improve quality of service by enhancing relationships on the Internet, a full-service directory like eDirectory is paramount to help manage shared information, distributed relationships, connections, and the infrastructure that support them."
