Deloitte& Touche has named SilverStream Software, a provider of Web application development software acquired by Novell Inc. in July 2002, to its annual ranking of the Top 50 Technology providers in New England for 2002.

"This honor recognizes our ability to translate market needs into industry leading products that solve real business challenges for our customers," said David Litwack, former president and CEO of SilverStream and now senior vice president of Novell, Inc. "Organizations are increasingly turning to the Web to reduce costs, improve business processes, communicate with key constituents and drive new revenue opportunities - all of which are key drivers for our products. We've worked very hard over the past five years and we are pleased to be recognized by Deloitte& Touche for our accomplishments."

SilverStream's selection to the "Fast 50" caps an eventful year of activity and recognition, consummated by Novell's acquisition of the company as an integral part of its strategy to provide a compelling Web services offering. The company's flagship product, now known as Novell exteNd, first shipped in November of 2001 and was quickly embraced by leading organizations worldwide including ABN AMRO (US), GfK AG (DE) and a number of US government agencies. The industry has also responded to the exteNd suite with recognition and acclaim. exteNd was named the 2002 "Product of the Year" by eAI Journal and also received accolades from Computing Magazine with an "Award for Excellence" and Asia Computer Weekly as a "Technology Trailblazer." In addition, exteNd Composer was named a "World Class Product" by Web Services Journal, the premier monthly print publication devoted to Web services.

"Novell knew we were getting an industry leader with SilverStream, and this award confirms our decision," said Chris Stone, vice chairman, office of the CEO at Novell. "The Web application development products that we gained complement our secure identity management and cross-platform networking services and enable us to provide a more complete set of solutions for our customers."
