Microsoft SCCM out, Novell ZENworks in for improved efficiency, accuracy, and auditing ability.
Novell today announced that Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust will replace Microsoft tools with Novell’s ZENworks® product suite. The trust has signed a multi-year deal for Novell’s ZENworks Asset Management and ZENworks Configuration Management, replacing Microsoft System Centre Configuration Manager which was previously in use at the trust.
Peter Ridley, Finance and Informatics Director of Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, explains: "We weren't getting the information we wanted from the Microsoft solution and its reliability was not meeting our stringent requirements. Providing accurate information to our auditors was highly resource intensive and a major pain point for the trust which resulted in pressure on our Service Desk and Engineering teams. We needed to find a way of providing timely and accurate data to our auditors, so we started investigating what ZENworks could do for us.
"Now ZENworks is already providing us with reliable asset information, and the process of getting this data is much more efficient. We've made major gains in other areas too such as software deployment, plus patch management is far more capable than with SCCM because it now covers numerous vendors with controllable deployment schedules."
During a thorough investigation process to find a solution to replace SCCM, the trust discovered that a number of larger NHS trusts in Kent, Sussex and Surrey were already using Novell ZENworks. After detailed discussions with these trusts and following a full proof-of-concept demonstration from Novell, the trust felt confident that it had found a cost-effective solution which would provide real ROI.
Marc Engall, client executive, Novell, comments: "NHS trusts have complex IT estates which have to meet stringent security, compliance, cost and reliability criteria. The speed at which the IT and regulatory environment is evolving in healthcare means that trusts will have to continuously strive for greater efficiencies, enhanced user experience and improved productivity, and ZENworks enables that. Now the trust will experience significant savings in time spent on administration, and will be able to run its audit reports in an accurate and timely fashion. We look forward to supporting Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to help it meet its changing technology requirements over the coming years."
