Novell NetWare 6 Named Best Networking Product of 2001 by PC Magazine

NetWare 6 honored for innovation at PC Magazine's 18th annual Awards for Technical Excellence

14 November 2001

Novell, Inc., a leader in eBusiness solutions and Net services software, today announced that Novell® NetWare® 6 was honored for its innovation and merit at PC Magazine's 18th annual Awards for Technical Excellence. Presented at Fall COMDEX*, the award recognizes NetWare 6 as the top networking product of the year. NetWare 6 is the latest version of Novell's premier platform for delivering Net services across all types of networks, storage systems and client desktops. The acknowledgment of excellence came from PC Magazine editorial staff, senior contributors and lab analysts.

"NetWare has long been a rock-solid friend to the network administrator, providing critical network services to large numbers of people, while letting administrators devote valuable resources to other projects," said Michael Simpson, vice president of Novell's platform solutions team. "NetWare 6 continues that tradition, and at the same time offers more services directly to the end-user, with access to network resources via the Internet at any time from any location. I'm thrilled PC Magazine recognizes the technical excellence of our engineering teams, while at the same time they understand we are simplifying life for end-users as never before."

Designed explicitly for today's Net economy, NetWare 6 doesn't require a rip-and-replace strategy but can be plugged into existing networks to integrate those networks into one Net, empowering new services and maximizing existing technology investments. Powerful Net services provided by NetWare 6 include Novell iFolder™, which lets users securely access and synchronize their files, anywhere in the world, across all types of networks and on any Internet-enabled machine. iPrint makes Internet printing a reality by allowing customers to use a simple Web browser to find and install a printer and securely print with the click of a mouse, so there are no location restraints on either the user or the printer.

Also in NetWare 6, NetWare WebAccess significantly reduces costs and management complexity by providing user access via a Web browser to files, printers, e-mail, calendar, corporate address book, etc., all through a customizable portal, regardless of desktop operating system or device. In addition, NetWare 6 allows Windows*, Macintosh*, UNIX*, Linux* and Web-based client workstations to connect and store files and data on NetWare servers without any Novell client software on the workstation.

NetWare 6 is currently available through Novell Authorized ResellersSM and solution providers, and additional product and pricing information can be found at http://www.novell.com/netware6.
