Novell, Inc., the leading provider of Net services software, is simplifying the management of technology resources and securing business on the Net for Odwalla, Inc., the nation's leading branded super-premium beverage company. Odwalla is using Novell® technology such as NDS® eDirectory, Novell Account Management, ZENworks® for Desktops, BorderManager®, GroupWise® and NetWare® to integrate network operating systems, manage workstations, control Net access and functionality, and access e-mail anytime from anywhere. Novell's Net services give Odwalla the reliability, security and ease of management needed to compete in today's eBusiness world.

"Novell Net services software allows us to effectively manage 550 PCs and 11 servers in 30 cities with a staff of only five," said Gary Hensley, director of IT for Odwalla. "In a mixed NetWare, NT and UNIX* environment, Novell directory-enabled software such as Novell Account Management lets us create a seamless, unified network so we can easily and inexpensively manage the multiple platforms and operating systems we have. By design, our users see only one Net, and we're able to manage it more efficiently and less expensively even as it grows to meet our expanding needs."

Founded by three musicians in 1980, Odwalla (NASDAQ: ODWA) delivers nourishment coast to coast with the Odwalla and Samantha lines of all-natural juices, smoothies, dairy-free shakes, spring water and natural food bars. Their only "business plan" originally was to make great juice, do good things for the community and build a business with heart. Since then, Odwalla has averaged about 40 percent growth per year, and Odwalla and Samantha brands together command 62 percent of the market in the refrigerated premium juice category.

In May last year, Odwalla, headquartered in Half Moon Bay, Calif., purchased Fresh Samantha, Inc., the East Coast's leading premium refrigerated juice company. Working with Novell partner Dynamic Networking Solutions in Benicia, Calif., Odwalla migrated the acquired company from Windows NT* and Exchange to NetWare 5.1 and GroupWise 5.5. Using ZENworks and GroupWise Exchange Gateway, the migration took only a week.

According to Craig Miller, vice president and general manager of Novell's Net Management business unit, Odwalla's business technology needs mirror those of many companies that are concerned about maximizing return on IT investment. "We know our customers need to help their employees be as productive as possible in order to meet the high expectations of their customers. With tools like GroupWise Web Access, which allows Odwalla employees to access e-mail and collaboration services wherever they are via a Web browser, and ZENworks for Desktops, which lets three people set up and maintain nearly 600 workstations, Odwalla is able to devote full resources to deliver its high-quality products fresh and on time to its customers," Miller said. "The reliability of NetWare, the security of BorderManager and the ease of eDirectory help provide Odwalla the power to change in today's ever-shifting competitive markets."
