Supported Windows platforms

PlateSpin Migrate supports transformation for the following Windows platforms. It supports only the NTFS file system on any supported Windows system. Migrate mirrors the Microsoft support of BIOS and UEFI firmware. Disks must be partitioned with MBR or GPT (up to 57 partitions) disk partitioning formats. Support includes both file-level and block-level replications, except as noted.

Windows platforms for migration to non-cloud targets

Notes: The following guidelines apply to Windows migrations to non-cloud target platforms:

  • Migration of workloads to a target virtualization platform is subject to the support of the guest operating system on the target host by the host vendor.
  • Windows UEFI workloads are migrated as UEFI or BIOS, as supported by the target platform vendor.

Servers

  • Windows Server 2016
  • Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2
  • Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2 (Including domain controller (DC) systems and Small Business Server (SBS) editions)
  • Windows Server 2003 R2
  • Windows Server 2003 SP1 and later

Note: Migration of Windows Server 2016 to VMware requires VMware vCenter 6.0 or later.

Notes:

  • Migrate supports only block-level replication for clusters.
  • Driver-based block-based transfer is supported for incremental replications on Windows Server 2008 R2 and higher clusters on FC SANs only.
  • Migrate does not support migration of clusters to images and cloud targets.
  • Migration of Windows Server 2016 Cluster to VMware requires VMware vCenter 6.0 or higher.

Supported Linux platforms

PlateSpin Migrate supports transformations for the following Linux platforms. It supports only the EXT2, EXT3, EXT4, REISERFS, and XFS file systems on any supported Linux system. Migrate mirrors the Linux support of BIOS and UEFI firmware. Disks must be formatted with the MBR or GPT (up to 57 partitions) disk partitioning format. Migration of encrypted volumes is not supported.

Support includes only block-level replications using a blkwatch driver. PlateSpin Migrate software includes pre-compiled versions of the blkwatch driver for many non-debug Linux distributions (32-bit and 64-bit). For a list of available drivers, see List of Distributions in the PlateSpin Migrate User Guide. If your search is unsuccessful, you can create a custom blkwatch driver by following the steps found in the Knowledgebase Article KB 7005873.

Linux platforms for migration to non-cloud targets

Notes: The following guidelines apply to Linux migrations to non-cloud target platforms:

  • Workload imaging is not supported in Linux workloads.
  • Conversion of BIOS-based Linux system to UEFI-based is not supported.
  • Migration of workloads to a target virtualization platform is subject to the support of the guest operating system on the target host by the host vendor.
  • Linux UEFI workloads are migrated as UEFI or BIOS, as supported by the target platform vendor.
