  • Embedded Novell Distributed Print Services (eNDPS) simplifies network printing
  • Software Development Kit creates new revenue opportunity for partners and manufacturers
  • Customers and end users realize major productivity improvement from fastest, most-secure printer solution from anywhere to anywhere in the Net
  • eNDPS reduces cost of ownership by reducing setup costs and network management requirements

Novell, Inc., the leading provider of Net services software, today announced the adoption by top printer manufacturers and developers of embedded Novell® Distributed Print Services™ (eNDPS®). Epson, IBM, Netsilicon, and Netreon, among others, will incorporate eNDPS into their product lines — revolutionizing and simplifying local area, wide area and Net printing through the power of Novell's NDS® eDirectoryä. Running on Novell NetWare®, eNDPS significantly automates network printer setup and management, the source of 50-75 percent of all network management problems, according to IDC and other sources.

eNDPS increases customer productivity with network print speed several times faster than current capabilities and immediate status reporting to users regardless of server status or user and printer location. Customers sending highly sensitive print jobs, such as checks or other financial documents, will find eNDPS' enhanced security invaluable.

"eNDPS is the fastest, most secure, network print system in the world," said Corbin de Rubertis, vice president of eBusiness for Novell. "With new remote management capabilities, eNDPS enables network administrators or end users to use and manage the network printer whether they are in a hotel in Bangladesh or on the beach at Maui. The printer could be in the next room or across the Internet. The print job will still be done, faster and more securely than ever before possible."

Developers& Manufacturers Adopt eNDPS
eNDPS delivers compelling value to companies facing increasingly complex network needs as they transition to eBusiness. Existing NetWare customers, some 20 million strong, and new customers can decrease their network support costs with eNDPS. Available as a Software Development Kit, eNDPS' unique management features allow developers and printer manufacturers who ship some 9 million printers each year a substantial competitive advantage in delivering high speed, low maintenance printing via the Net.

Netreon, Inc. provides directory and management software that integrates networked devices into enterprise networks. Its customer list includes blue chip companies such as IBM, Kyocera, Konica, Minolta, Ricoh, Seiko Epson, Xerox, and other international corporations. "Netreon is pleased to have been a development partner with Novell on embedded NDPS," said Adam Au, general manager of Netreon, Inc. "IT managers and end users will be pleased with the straightforward installation and streamlined administration that embedded NDPS makes possible."

NetSilicon's DPI Imaging Group provides Ethernet microprocessing solutions for intelligent devices, including connectivity solutions for printers, multifunction devices, digital copiers, scanners and fax machines for leading imaging OEMs. "NetSilicon's customers have come to expect breakthrough technology that gives them competitive advantage in the Net economy," said William Peisel, Chief Technology Officer, NetSilicon. "eNDPS is such a technology. Speed, reliability, and reducing the complexity of networking print services make it a winner."

Customers to Leverage Power of eNDPS
Leveraging the power of pure IP NetWare and Novell Directory Services, end users and IT managers will see the following benefits for using this new Novell Net services offering:

  • Fastest printing solution available for printing on the Net
  • Immediate status reporting to end user regardless of printer location
  • Direct client-to-printer printing, thus reducing WAN traffic
  • Ease of setup and installation - truly 'plug& play'
  • Network printing even if the server is down
  • Reduced cost of ownership

SunTel Services, a Novell Platinum Reseller, delivers enterprise communications infrastructure for voice, data, and video systems. They have been looking forward to the availability of eNDPS enabled print devices. "Novell's eNDPS takes network printing to the next level, enabling better network printer performance on the Net," said Ray P. Szpiech, vice president of Enterprise Network Engineering for SunTel Services. "We believe eNDPS will simplify our customers' complex eBusiness networks and provide fast, secure and reliable print services."

Pricing and Availability
Available immediately to OEMs, the eNDPS Software Development Kit will cost $5,000 plus royalties for the shipment of the embedded Agents and Requestor. Cost may vary for those with NEST Office agreements.
