The latest applications and major technology improvements round out new release
The openSUSE Project, a worldwide project sponsored by Novell, today announced that openSUSE 11.4 is now available for download at http://software.opensuse.org. Filled with firsts, openSUSE 11.4 is the first major community distribution to ship LibreOffice in its stable release and also the first to ship Firefox 4.0 which includes a completely redesigned user interface and improved performance. Additionally, it includes the first Qt4-based release of Scribus, the popular open source desktop publishing application.
With better performance and support for the latest hardware, openSUSE 11.4 offers major improvements including the new Broadcom wireless driver which enables many laptops to work out of the box. In addition, the openSUSE community is introducing the Tumbleweed initiative, a rolling-release repository for openSUSE 11.4. The popular third-party package provider Packman has also reorganized and optimized its repositories for the openSUSE 11.4 release. The Packman team, which provides a large number of new and updated packages for openSUSE, simultaneously introduces support for Tumbleweed.
The foundation for the award-winning SUSE Linux Enterprise from Novell, openSUSE 11.4 continues to give customers a choice of desktops from the full-featured KDE Plasma and GNOME desktops to the lightweight XFCE and LXDE options, along with cutting-edge functionality and the latest Linux offerings.
Availability
The openSUSE 11.4 release reflects the collaboration between Novell and the larger openSUSE contributor community.
