Relaxation of Export Controls Will Spur Growth of e-Business Worldwide
Novell, Inc., the leading provider of 'Net infrastructure software, announced support for the new encryption export regulations released today by the US Department of Commerce. The new regulations will allow Novell and other companies to export software with higher levels of security to enterprise customers overseas without seeking a special license from the US Government. As a result, Novell customers overseas will be able to take advantage of significant new Web infrastructure solutions such as NDS eDirectory and NetWare 5.1.
"This announcement clearly sets the stage for the next big growth phase of the Internet," said Eric Schmidt, CEO and Chairman, Novell, Inc. "By making good on their promise to significantly liberalize export controls on encryption technology, e-business infrastructure solutions can now be deployed worldwide."
Novell customers outside the US will now be able to license Novell solutions with higher degrees of encryption than are currently available. Previously, software companies needed a special license from the government to export software solutions with greater than 56-bit encryption. As corporations extend their business networks to the Internet, they will now be able to implement stronger security found in products such as NetWare 5.1, NDS eDirectory and GroupWise to protect their networks, systems and data.
