Novell, Inc., the leading provider of Net services software, today announced that Novell's desktop management software, ZENworks® for Desktops 3, has garnered two Well-Connected Awards from Network Computing, a leading technology publication providing IT professionals valuable information about products, technologies and services. During a ceremony this week at the NetWorld®+Interop trade show, ZENworks for Desktops 3 earned top honors in both the Directory-Based Application and Software Delivery& Desktop Management Systems categories. The awards reconfirm the superiority of ZENworks for Desktops in simplifying desktop management, including in Windows 2000 environments, and securely extending networks by allowing administrators to centrally manage and personalize company desktops and laptops.

The Well-Connected Award winners were chosen by the editors of Network Computing, who test the products, comparing features and functionality, to find the best offerings in the enterprise arena. According to Network Computing, "Since the dawn of personal computers, desktop management has been a major pain as well as a black hole of time and money. Many vendors have gone down trying to make a useful enterprise system. Novell, on the other hand, has succeeded with ZENworks for Desktops 3, and it continues to make this category better and better. ZENworks for Desktops may be the best use of a directory outside of user access."

The publication also praised ZENworks for Desktops 3's tight integration with Novell® eDirectory, writing, "...it should be no surprise that when we went looking for excellence in the directory-based applications space, we found a product from Novell at the head of the pack... [ZENworks for Desktops 3] builds on the solid foundation of past versions of ZENworks by adding comprehensive support for Microsoft Corp.'s Windows 2000. This allows Novell to provide a unified workstation management infrastructure for any Windows 32-bit platform, something that even Microsoft is unable to do with its directory-based product."

With support for all Windows desktops, ZENworks for Desktops 3 accelerates a company's transformation to eBusiness by allowing automated software distribution, remote desktop management and self-healing capabilities for applications. ZENworks for Desktops 3 frees IT staffs from time-consuming, repetitive maintenance tasks, allowing them to focus on more strategic technology challenges. ZENworks for Desktops 3 is used by more than 55 percent of Global 1000 companies and, with 31 million users worldwide, is the most installed directory-enabled application.

"We're very pleased to see ZENworks for Desktops 3 recognized by one of the IT industry's most respected publications with these two Well-Connected Awards continuing a history of recognition that has followed the ZENworks product line," said Brad Anderson, ZENworks business unit manager for Novell. "As the market continues to navigate challenging economic times, more and more businesses are embracing the cost savings and immediate ROI available through deployment of Novell's leading desktop management solution."
