  • eDirectory Awarded Product of the Year from Top Industry Publications
  • eDirectory, NIMS, and NetWare Win Network Computing's Well Connected Awards

Novell, Inc., a leading provider of Net services software, today announced that its NDS eDirectory was named "Software Product of the Year" by Network Computing and "Best Directory Service" by Network Magazine in its 13th annual Product of the Year Awards. Additionally, Network Computing named Novell's eDirectory "Best Enterprise Directory service," beating out Microsoft's Active Directory and iPlanet'sDirectory Server.

Other Novell products lauded by Network Computing during its sixth annual Well Connected Awards include Novell Internet Messaging System (NIMS) and Netware 5.1. NIMS won "Best Enterprise Mail System" over Sun Microsystem's Internet Mail Server 3.5 and Mirapoint's M1000 Messaging Server; while NetWare 5.1 won "Best Server Operating System" beating Microsoft's Windows 2000 Server and Linux.

The world's leading directory service with 70 million users worldwide, eDirectory was praised by both publications for being a cross-platform solution. Major eDirectory dot-com and enterprise customers include CNN Interactive, Hellman and Federal Express. Network Magazine wrote, "The vision driving the adoption of directories is that, once they have been adopted widely enough as a repository of user information, we'll have arrived at a single Internet. No company has better articulated this vision, or delivered on some of its important components, than Novell. In order for directories to become ubiquitous and interoperable enough to make a real difference, they need to run natively on every OS that's important to the Internet not just one. NDS eDirectory robust, scalable and LDAP-aware is exactly where it needs to be."

Network Computing wrote, "Directory infrastructure is critical to enterprise and e-business applications, and nobody does directory services as well as Novell."

"We designed eDirectory to be a foundation for delivering new network services regardless of operating system. eDirectory make the vision of one Net, a single global network for conducting business that encompasses all types of networks, including wired or wireless, the Internet, intranet or extranet, a reality" said Steve Adams, senior vice president of worldwide marketing at Novell. "These top product awards affirm that Net services software is becoming increasingly important in answering the needs of customers who, today more than ever, need their networks to perform in the face of unrelenting demands created by the Internet."
