Creating a Data Set Folder

A data set folder has one or more data set name filters that specify what data sets are included in the folder. Each filter may be a fully specified data set name or a partially specified name containing wild characters. All data sets on the z/OS server that match one of the filters are included in the folder. A data set may exist in more than one folder.

Partitioned data sets are also represented as folders; the members are contained within the folder. Partitioned data set folder icons contain a blue dot or red diamond to distinguish them from user-defined virtual folders.

Note

Periods are not allowed in user-defined folder names because the file system uses the presence of periods to distinguish user-defined folders from partitioned data sets (which appear as folders).
